Match Report

The ladies 2s suffered a third successive league defeat on Saturday as they lost 2-1 to Derby. Tamworth made a positive start to the game as they pinned Derby back in their own half with a high press, and on 9 minutes they took the lead, Claire Miles found Lucy Wright -Perkins in the 'D' and she calmly slotted home. The town side continued to play some excellent hockey as they attacked down both flanks,  Fiona Wylie went closest to increasing Tamworth's lead with a couple of great efforts, but it was derby who hit back midway through the half as they capitalised on a misplaced pass to equalise. This gave the home side a boost as momentum shifted in Derby's favour, with the towns defense absorbing increased pressure and GK Emma Male making a number of good saves to keep the scores level at the break.
The second half was an evenly fought contest with both sides enjoying good spells of possession, Wylie who was having a super game was at the heart of some of the town's best attacks with Rachel Rowe, Danielle Hill and Phoebe Marsland all working hard down the flanks. With derby looking dangerous on the break they took the lead as they worked the ball well in the 'D' and found a player unmarked at the back post to slot home. Tamworth continued press forward looking for the equaliser with both Lucy Wright -Perkins and Gemma Rayson going close to securing a point for the away side but derby held on for the win, leaving the town frustrated as their play deserved at least a point from the game.
