The ladies 2s started their league campaign with a trip to Matlock on Saturday losing 2-1. Following last year's promotion the town side were under no illusion that this would be a tougher campaign and this proved so against a well organised Matlock team. The town side took a while to settle into a pattern of play with Matlock enjoying plenty of early possession and they took the lead with a well struck short corner after 15 minutes. Matlock packed the midfield making it difficult for the away side to break them down, but Tamworth responded well to conceding as their midfield started to get a foothold in the game and were working hard to move the team higher up the pitch, Jacqui Casey was having a super game and she set up the towns equaliser winning the ball in her own half then with a defence splitting pass set Lucy Wright -Perkins clear and she made no mistake slotting the ball home, to go into the break all square.
Tamworth played with more confidence in the second half attacking down both flanks and were defensively more solid although it was Matlock who again made the breakthrough to retake the lead. Tamworth pressed forward looking for an equaliser creating chances, Wright-Perkins set up Claire Miles who hit her shot well but straight at the keeper, with only a couple of minutes remaining the town side won a short corner, they worked the ball well but just couldn't force the ball home and Matlock held on for the three points.
