Tamworth Ladies 1s continued their unbeaten run with a hard-fought 1–0 victory against a strong and experienced Erewash side.
Tamworth found themselves under pressure from the opening whistle, with Erewash pressing high and preventing the home side from settling into their usual rhythm. It was an unusually slow start from Tamworth, with the defence having to absorb plenty of pressure throughout the first half.
Erewash were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty flick following a foot on the line from a short corner. Fortunately for Tamworth, they were unable to convert and the scores remained level.
The half-time break gave Tamworth the opportunity to reset, and the second half saw a completely different performance. The Ladies began playing their own fluid hockey, dominating much of the half and creating increasing pressure as they searched for the breakthrough.
At the other end, Lisa Moore produced a crucial save to keep Tamworth in the game and maintain the clean sheet.
With just three minutes remaining, Tamworth won a short corner. Stevie Oversby stepped up and fired home a straight strike to finally break the deadlock and secure a huge three points for the Ladies.
Special mention must go to the entire back line, who absorbed an enormous amount of pressure during the first half, while Gracie Prue and Phoebe Philips worked tirelessly up and down the wings throughout the game.
Most importantly, it was a fantastic collective effort from the whole squad, particularly in the second half, to dig deep and secure three crucial points while keeping the unbeaten run alive.
Player of the Match — Hannah Channing
An exceptional performance across both the back line and midfield.
