 Tamworth’s 3rd XI Development squad travelled to face Atherstone Adders 5th XI. The game began strongly for Tamworth, who settled quickly and produced some flowing passages of play through midfield. Atherstone’s revolving door of substitutes kept the intensity high, and the hosts opened the scoring in the first half.

To their credit, Tamworth’s youngsters and newer players stuck admirably to the task. They created several chances of their own and grew in confidence, but the weight of experience in the Adders’ side began to show. A second goal arrived and despite some heroic defending after the restart, a third followed late on.

For Tamworth the squad gained invaluable experience against opponents who, for a “development” side, had some remarkably skilled individuals. There was no shortage of effort, commitment, or team spirit, and the 3rd XI will take plenty from the contest as they continue their growth.

While the scoreboard read 3–0, Tamworth can take pride in having competed with a side who, on another day, might have looked more at home a division or two higher.
