| Match Report | Tamworth completed their last home game of the season with a great battle vs Newport. Town started the match brilliantly and within just 3 minutes, a short corner routine saw Simon Bowyer fire in a beauty to make it 1-0.
Tamworth pushed and had a whole host of chances through Hutchins and Belson – all near misses. Newport struck level mid way through the 1st half and took the match to half time at 1-1.
In the 2nd half Tamworth started slowly, but re gained the lead through a lovely piece of play by Logan Convey who found Dave Belson, his first shot was saved by the keeper, but on hand to tuck it away on the rebound Belson made it 2-1. Some further chances at both ends saw Jack Corden make several key saves for the home side to keep them in the lead. Newport’s effort paid off though as the away side scored a neat goal to bring it level at 2-2.
Newport gain some ascendency and did squander a few chances to take the lead, later in the 2nd half Tamworth struck again, a great bit of play in midfield, which lead to Jez Holloway playing in Belson, who took a lovely first touch and pinged the ball in to the roof of the net from distance leaving the keeper helpless and to take home the 3 points with a 3-2 victory and securing his 25th goal of the season.
Tamworth end their season away at Telford next week, which will see the winners secure 5th position, Man of the Match Jack Corden, for some outstanding saves at key times. |
