| Match Report | Tamworth hosted local side Sutton and a game always played in great spirit.
In the early stages of the game it was very evenly battled with both sides battling for possession. Tamworth did start a big sluggishly and took a bit of time to settle into the game. After 15 minutes the deadlock was broken by Dave Belson, who capitalised on a defensive error, rounded the keeper and slotted home in to the empty net. That seemed to settle the home side nerves and they began to turn up the heat – some superb interlinking of play down the right saw James Goode stride through the defence and played a square ball and that man Belson was there to pounce and despatch the ball home 2-0.
Only moments later, further great play by Tamworth, saw Popple fire the ball in to Belson, who from the middle of the D, hit a first time strike to find the bottom left corner and complete a 1st half hattrick and take the game to 3-0 at the interval.
The quickfire double at the end of the 1st half took the game away from Sutton and Belson struck early in the 2nd half to get his fourth, again neat play by Popple, and another first time effort found the bottom corner, taking Belson to 20 league goals this season. The game petered away a little and while Tamworth began to probe, Sutton still looking to play some good hockey up until the finish, eventually got off the mark through some neat play. In the final moments Tamworth found their 5th, some neat work play from Holloway, into Belson, who found Popple this time, finishing with a neat reverse stick strike – this took the game to 5-1 and how it ended.
