Match Report

Tamworth Men’s 2nds wrapped up this half of the season at home to Telford and Wrekin.

Both sides sitting mid table and with similar records so far, it was a tightly contested affair and as expected a high scoring one.

Telford started strong and took an early lead through some neat play leaving Oxley in goal no chance.  Both sides had further chances to score but the Half Time whistle went with Telford having the advantage.

Tamworth did well to grow into the game in the 2nd half and after a number of chances through short corner routines, switched it up with Simon Bowyer playing in on the opposite side Jez Holloway who played a wonderful flick shot which was despatched in to the bottom corner leaving the away GK flat footed and the game was tied at 1-1.

The game appeared to be on a knife edge and yet again Telford taking a good chance with an early strike putting them 2-1 in front!  Tamworth bouncing back quickly to draw the game 2-2 through another short corner routine, Simon Bowyer taking the 1st strike, which was goal bound but not fully struck – Dave Belson intervened on the strike and got a connection on the ball which deflected it over the ongoing defender to find the back of the net – 2-2! Game On!!

Tamworth pushing for that goal to take them in the lead for this first time seemed to be coming, while both sides in the tie and the game becoming a bit frantic and it was end to end.  Telford broke free and in to the D, with the ball striking a Tamworth foot, Tamworth stopped expecting a short corner to be blown, however the attacker swooped in to put the ball in the back of the net while the defence stood still and the umpire played advantage and the goal stood! 3-2 Telford.

Tamworth left reeling as they had not played to the whistle, and feeling a bit hard done by were behind again!  The last 10 minutes Tamworth pushed and pushed to get back into the game, however they ran out of time and the match ended 3-2 Telford.  Birthday boy Robert Busby picked up the Man of the Match award for his efforts and Tamworth go in to the winter break sat safely in mid table.
