| Match Report | Tamworth faced the in-form side in the league this weekend and what a thriller it turned out to be!
Tamworth started the game in wet conditions on the back foot in the first ten minutes, but held firm thanks to great saves from John Pilling in goal and took the lead through some brilliant hockey on the right hand side, Jez Holloway and Toby Smith linking up to play Dave Belson in who drew the keeper and squared the ball to Logan Convey who fired in from close range making it 1-0 to Tamworth.
Tamworth extended their lead through top scorer Belson, after a short corner routine where Holloway’s shot rebounded out and Belson pounced to find the back of the net.
Tamworth came back out in the 2nd half and started sluggishly, which saw Old Wulfs find the back of the net and close the deficit. Tamworth rallied well and produced some of their finest hockey this season, especially on the right hand side – chances were being created and again through a short corner routine, Cam Hunter found Simon Bowyer who pinged a shot into the bottom corner to restore the 2-goal lead. Tamworth continued to push and found their 4th of the day through a beautiful reverse stick strike from Man of the Match Cam Hunter which found the top corner – 4-1 to Tamworth with 6 minutes to play.
The last 6 minutes were somewhat chaotic and a series of events, through Cam Hancox being given a green card, from the resulting free hit Old Wulfs hit a venomous strike into the top corner and the game was back on. Further poor defensive passing led to the ball being presented right to the forward who was 1 on 1 with the keeper and the ball tapped home to make it 4-3! The home side were all a mess and the dynamic changed and Tamworth could not get the ball out, in the dying embers of the game Old Wulfs were awarded a dubious short corner routine and they took advantage of this and fired a thunderbolt into the net – leaving the score 4-4!
Tamworth, with their best performance of the season, somehow lost the 4-1 lead in the last 6 minutes, felling like a defeat. A really great game of hockey and well contested.
