| Match Report | Match Report: Shrewsbury 4–2 Tamworth
Tamworth were left disappointed as they fell to a 4–2 defeat away at Shrewsbury, despite a spirited performance and an outstanding display from goalkeeper James Miles.
The hosts started strongly and applied early pressure, forcing Miles into action on several occasions. Despite his efforts, Shrewsbury managed to break the deadlock and went on to add further pressure throughout the first half. Tamworth battled hard to stay in the contest and found moments of attacking promise, but went into the break trailing.
In the second half, Tamworth showed greater intent going forward and were rewarded with two goals. Terry Sperrink pulled one back with a well-taken finish, giving the visitors renewed belief. Later on, Tom Hancox added a second, reacting sharply to find the net and keep Tamworth within touching distance.
However, Shrewsbury’s attacking quality ultimately told, and two further goals ensured the home side secured a 4–2 victory.
Despite the result, Tamworth can take positives from the performance, particularly between the posts. James Miles delivered a standout display, making a number of excellent saves to keep the scoreline respectable and denying Shrewsbury on several clear-cut occasions.
A tough afternoon for Tamworth, but one that highlighted resilience, flashes of quality, and a man-of-the-match-calibre performance from their goalkeeper. |
