| Match Report | Ludlow edged a pulsating nine-goal thriller against a defiant Tamworth, eventually running out 5–4 winners in a contest that swung dramatically from end to end.
Tamworth struck first through Graeme Cook, whose opener came after a crucial interception by Terry Sperrink caught Ludlow cold on the break. The turnover in midfield split the home side’s shape, and Cook made no mistake with a composed finish to give Tamworth the early advantage.
Ludlow responded with intent and soon found their rhythm. Tom Hancox levelled the scores in clinical fashion, burying a precise short corner that left the Tamworth defence with no chance. The momentum began to shift, but Tamworth remained dangerous on the counter.
Sperrink, who had already played a decisive role in the opener, then added his name to the scoresheet. After sharp work from full back Dylan Waldron, who reacted quickest to drag the ball back into the D, Sperrink pounced with quick reactions of his own to restore Tamworth’s lead in a breathless first half.
Both sides continued to trade blows, with the attacking quality on display overwhelming the defensive lines. By the interval, the score read 3–3, reflecting a fiercely contested half full of intensity, turnovers and clinical finishing.
Half time 3-3
The second half carried on in much the same vein, with Ludlow eventually edging ahead in a tightly fought final quarter. Dominic Parry set up a grandstand finish when he fired home in the 69th minute to bring Tamworth back to within a single goal of salvaging a point. However, Ludlow held firm in the closing stages, managing possession smartly and denying Tamworth a final clear opportunity.
Key performances from Jake Mallinder and Elliott Birchall underpinned Ludlow’s resilience and attacking drive throughout the match. Birchall, in particular, was outstanding across the pitch, dictating play and influencing key moments.
At the final whistle, it was Ludlow who celebrated a hard-earned 5–4 victory in a thrilling encounter where either side could have taken the points.
