Match Report

Tamworth came out on top in this top of table clash beating second placed Sutton 3-2 on Saturday. In horrible conditions the town side took a while to settle, as the young Sutton team made a bright start to the game passing the ball around with confidence, but it was the home side who took the lead as they won a short corner that was converted by Claire Miles. The town side then started to play with their usual confidence passing the around nicely attacking down both flanks, with their second goal coming in the 20th minute, captain Clare Phillips leading by example was having a super game in the center of midfield started the move her pass finding Resh Kaur in space on the right wing who in turn found Stevie Oversby in the 'D' and she marked her return from maternity leave with a cool finish past the GK. Tamworth were now in control of the game and looked to be heading into the break 2-0 to the good, but took their foot off the gas and a couple of mistimed tackles allowed the Sutton forward through to pull a goal back for the away side, and the teams went into the break 2-1.

Tamworth made a poor start to the second session and a defensive error gifted Sutton with an equaliser within minutes of the restart,  spurred on by this Sutton went onto enjoy their best spell of the game and could have quite easily taken the lead but fortunately for Tamworth the Sutton forward hit her shot wide. The town's defense made a number of good tackles and clearances to keep Sutton out as Tamworth started to regain some possession and gradually got a foothold in the game, Zoe Aldridge worked tirelessly up and down the left flank, and in the 58th minute the home side scored what turned out to be the winner, Stevie Oversby slipped the ball to Resh Kaur whose cross found Jess Thacker at the far post for an easy tap in. The town side held on to their lead in the final 10 minutes to keep their 100% record in tact. A great win for the home side although not at their fluent best best fought really hard for the win.
