Tamworth Ladies Seconds Vs Beacon 2

Following last season's relegation the ladies 2s started their league campaign with a hard fought victory against Beacon on Saturday.

Fielding a mixture of youth and experience Tamworth had four under 18's making their league debuts with three of them also playing their first senior game for the club. The town side took a while to settle as Beacon made a bright start to the game, but they failed to capitalise on the chances they created. Tamworth started to enjoy more possession as they put together some excellent moves and opened the scoring on 32 minutes Gemma Rayson's through ball found Tilly Shade unmarked in the 'D' and she cooly diverted the ball past the oncoming keeper, the lead was short lived however as Beacon equalised to go into the break all square.

The second half saw Tamworth enjoy plenty of possession, but Beacon looked dangerous on the break and on one such occasion they took the lead. However after that the towns defensive trio of Jess Crosby, Cathy Thacker and Paula Cooper got the measure of Beacon forwards making a number of super tackles. Gemma Rayson equalised for the home side after 50 minutes combining with her daughter Jess who played in a lovely cross for her mom to slot home, 5 minutes later the same combination worked again as Rayson hit her second of the game from an acute angle. Another debutant Ellie Lowe was unlucky not to add to the score as her shot hit the post, the town side then managed the rest of the game really well to secure all three points. A really positive start for the team especially youngsters Jess Crosby, Tilly Shade, Ellie Lowe and Jess Rayson.
