Match Report

The ladies 2s fantastic season continued on Saturday with a hard fought 2-1 win over Sutton. Tamworth made a bright start with their central midfield trio of Jess Thacker, Clare Phillips and Claire Miles controlling the tempo of the game, passing the ball around with pace and purpose. Anne Marshall and Resh Kaur provided width down the flanks putting in a number of super crosses the only thing missing was the finishing touch that the towns play deserved. Miles, Aldridge and Wright -Perkins were all denied by some good keeping and the sides went into the break all square
The second session saw Tamworth once again dominate possession, they were defensively solid at the back and also showcased attacking flair. The deadlock was finally broken 10 minutes into the half a ball was stopped on the line by a foot, but Zoe Aldridge reacted quickly to slot the ball home to give the town the lead. Tamworth doubled their lead ten minutes later with a super move started in their own half, Claire Miles intercepted the ball she found Clare Phillips who set Anne Marshall on her way down the wing, a great run and pass found Lucy Wright-Perkins who beat a player before drawing the keeper and with a deft reverse stick shot found the back of the net. Tamworth continued to look comfortable on the ball and were working incredibly  hard when out of possession, eight minutes from time the town conceded a penalty corner from which Sutton scored, but Tamworth managed the remainder of the game really well and ran out deserved winners. A great performance that deserved more goals for the town side.
