Tamworth delivered a dominant display with an emphatic 8-0 victory over local rivals Lichfield on Saturday. The town side showcased attacking flair and solid teamwork throughout the match and from the first whistle set the tone, pressing high and moving the ball with pace and purpose. Anne Marshall and Resh Kaur threatened constantly down the flanks with Rachel Rowe and Claire Miles controlling the middle of the park. Phoebe Marsland opened the scoring after 11 minutes with Jo Bryan doubling the towns lead shortly after. Tamworth continued to press forward creating numerous chances but they had to wait until the 25th minute to add a third goal, Rachel Rowe with a well taken short corner strike sent the away side into the break 3-0 to the good.
The second session saw Tamworth play some outstanding hockey and such was their dominance that GK Nicky Youngman was called into action only once all game. Jess Thacker, Cathy Thacker and Audrey Warburton were defensively solid at the back pressing high to win the ball and setting up the towns attacks.
Three goals in a blistering opening 10 minutes of the second half again set the tone, Claire Miles scored twice, one from open play after being set up by Rowe and the second a thunderous short corner strike. Marsland continued her rich vein of form as she scored her seventh goal in four games, with a move that started at the back Jess Thacker hit a long pass to Sheena Williams who put in a nice cross for Marsland to finish. Jo Bryan scored her second of the game with another well taken strike. Marshall and Lucy Wright -Perkins both went close to adding to the score, a super run from Jess Thacker set up Wright -Perkins who saw her shot agonisingly hit the post but she was rewarded for her hard work when Rowe slipped the ball to her and she calmly slotted the ball past the GK to seal the win in the final minutes.
