The ladies 2s winning streak continued on Saturday as they beat a young Barton team 4-1. They were made to work really hard for the win and were given a real scare as Barton took the lead within a minute of the start, despite GK Nicky Youngman making two brilliant reflex saves she was unlucky when the ball fell straight to the attacker to hit home. For the majority of the first half the town side were outplayed by their opponents as they struggled to keep any meaningful possession. Jess and Cathy Thacker put in a number of good tackles and showcased some excellent long range passing setting up a number of attacks for the away side, but a combination of good goalkeeping and not being clinical in front of goal saw Barton keep their lead. Finally on 20 minutes Tamworth equalised through Hannah Marshall and the sides went into the break all square.
A slight tweek in the towns line up for the second session seemed to give them a better balance, and they enjoyed their best spell of the match as they passed the ball around with pace and purpose scoring three times in 20 minutes, Hannah Marshall turned provider as she received the ball in space she made a super run into the 'D' before squaring the ball to Zoe Aldridge who showed real composure to slot the ball past the oncoming GK to give Tamworth the lead for the first time. Two more goals in 10 minutes sealed the win, Marshall got her second with a brilliant deflection from Claire Miles shot before Miles added a fourth with a penalty corner strike. Barton continued to pose a threat to Tamworth as they pushed forward with GK Youngman staying alert as she had to make saves and clearances alongside defenders Jess Crosby and Ruth Giles, but the town side held on to the win with Hannah Marshall voted PoM.
