Match Report

Tamworth Ladies 1s delivered a composed and determined performance on Saturday, securing a much‑needed 5–0 victory over local rivals Lichfield 4s. The town side combined purposeful possession with disciplined teamwork throughout the match, setting the tone early and maintaining control across both halves.

Tamworth started strongly, keeping the ball with purpose and confidence. Their early possession paid off when Kirsty Brown opened the scoring just 10 minutes in. While going 1–0 up offered a welcome lift, the team knew that a single goal would not secure the points. As Lichfield grew into the half, Tamworth had to hold firm under mounting pressure, knowing that a second goal before the break would have provided the safety cushion they craved.

One such opportunity arrived when Brown struck powerfully at goal. The Lichfield goalkeeper reacted sharply, deflecting the effort into the circle where Fiona Sinclair stepped in to meet the rebound, only to see her shot drift narrowly wide — a chance to secure that valuable 2–0 foothold, but not one meant to be. Despite continued pressure and several promising attacks, Tamworth went into the break holding their slender advantage.

The second session saw Tamworth return with renewed intent. Brown struck again at 40 minutes, doubling the lead and lifting the entire squad. From there, Tamworth’s attacking unit began to play with fluidity and belief, while the defensive line — under strain so often this season — looked composed, united, and confident, stepping in decisively to break down Lichfield’s advances.

Gracie‑May Prue and Phoebe Phillips both carved out promising opportunities, showcasing impressive skill and maturity for their age, while Sinclair twice surged into the circle with strong attacking runs, only to be denied by the alert Lichfield goalkeeper.

A flurry of goals then arrived in quick succession. At 50 minutes, Amie Bishop added Tamworth’s third. Five minutes later, Gracie‑May Prue made it four with a composed strike following sustained attacking play. The final touch came from Kirsty Brown, who completed her hat trick at 60 minutes, sealing the kind of result the team has worked tirelessly for this season.

Tamworth kept their structure, supported each other, and never let the game drift. It was a performance built on determination, belief, and cohesion — qualities that haven’t always been reflected in their results this season, but shone through powerfully here.

Player of the Match: Gracie‑May Prue — recognised for her tireless work rate, creativity, and composure in the attacking third.

A well‑earned and much‑needed boost for Tamworth 1s — and hopefully a sign of more steady performances to come.
