Match Report

The ladies 1s faced local rivals Lichfield on Saturday coming away with a valuable point in a 1-1 draw. Tamworth started brightly playing the ball around with confidence, Tara Wylie was at the heart of the towns attacking threat as she drove Tamworth forward with Jo Goode and Phoebe Phillips also linking up well down the right flank creating a number of chances and although the home side went close to scoring they couldn't find that all important opener. At the other end Lichfield looked strong on the counter but the towns defensive unit were solid and snuffed out any danger and the sides went into the break all square.
The second session saw Lichfield enjoy more possession than they had in the first half but Tamworth still had the upper hand and a super move down the right saw Phoebe Phillips release Gracie -May Prue down the wing to set up Tara Wylie who made no mistake firing past the keeper to give the home side a well deserved lead. Tamworth went on to create a couple of excellent chances to increase their lead but were unable to capitalise on them. With Lichfield now enjoying their best spell of the game as they threw everything at Tamworth looking for an equaliser the game became a little frantic as the home side desperately tried to hold onto their lead but with only a few minutes remaining Lichfield equalised scoring from a short corner. Although disappointed that they didn't take all three points this was a valuable point and a positive performance to take into next week's game against bottom of the table Stafford, and a massive opportunity to secure a second win of the season.
