Match Report

Having lost their first six games of the season, Tamworth ladies first XI faced Beacon on Saturday and came away with a massive win. The town side started positively controlling the tempo of the game, Kirsty Brown and daughter Beth Wright were instrumental in the center of midfield setting up a number of attacks with Phoebe Phillips working tirelessly up and down the right flank linking up with Jo Goode and Fiona Wylie. The town sides play deserved a goal as a number of chances were not capitalised on and the side went into the break all square.
Buoyed on by an impressive first half display Tamworth continued to knock the ball around in style and although Beacon came more into the game they rarely troubled GK Lisa Moore, but when called into action she made a couple of important saves. A green card reduced the town side to 10 players for a 2 minute sin bin offence but Tamworth showed real discipline not allowing Beacon to take advantage of their extra player. Ten minutes into the second half it was Beacon who took the lead against the run of play as Tamworth gave the ball away cheaply, Beacon took full advantage breaking at pace to open the scoring. To Tamworth's credit they kept believing and had a couple of good short corner strikes before a change of tactics saw the home side leave two players high up the pitch and after 65 minutes they were rewarded with a goal, Becky Moore started the move from the back her pass found Jess Thacker in space, her cross found Gracie -May Prue in the 'D' who in turn showed real calmness to slip the ball to Claire Miles to fire home the equaliser. Another green card for the home side late on once again saw them reduced to 10 players, Beacon enjoyed their best spell of the game as they forced a few short corners but the towns defense held firm and with the game heading for a draw Tamworth were awarded a penalty corner, the ball came out to Claire Miles who beat a couple of players before executing a reverse stick pass to Fiona Wylie who made no mistake firing home the winner with the last hit of the game to absolute scenes of joy for the home side.
