Match Report |
Tamworth went into Sunday's game in confident mood following a dominant display on Saturday, although they didn't have the best start as Belper scored early on. The town side stayed positive and responded almost immediately equalising in the fifth minute, a flowing move found Tilly Bryan on the edge of the 'D' and her perfectly weighted pass found Di Milner whose first time strike hit the back of the net. Belper were enjoying the greater share of possession but Tamworth defended resolutely to keep Belper at bay, while also looking dangerous on the break. Pressure finally told midway through the half as Belper retook the lead. The game changed with an injury to GK Nicky Youngman, this disrupted Tamworth's rhythm with Belper adding 3 more goals to go into the break 5-1 up.
With their GK unable to continue Di Milner stepped up to put the pads on for the home side as Tamworth continued to compete really well with youngsters Phoebe Phillips and Phoebe Marsland working extremely hard up and down the flanks showing some great skill, the town side did create some opportunities of their own but just couldn't find a finish. Di Milner made a number of saves but despite her heroics in goal Belper were very clinical in their finishing adding four more to their tally to make the final score 9-1. Tamworth now go into their final three games with everything to play for as they strive to avoid relegation.
