Match Report | 2-2
Tamworth 2nds travelled away to Telford with high hopes of adding another win to their season,
Tamworth started the match well with some neat passing work through midfield and took an early lead in the game when Dave Belson’s strike was saved by the keeper, but Logan Convey nipped in to tuck away his first ever goal. After Tamworth had the lead Telford took control of the game and were playing some nice team hockey. They soon equalised through a short corner routine where Ethan Oxley made a save, but the follow up was struck straight back and went through the defensive line to make it 1-1.
Telford’s dominance continued and Tamworth were pinned in, after a neat move down the right side, Telford struck again to take a 2-1 lead. Tamworth found some footing back in the game and created a few chances, and Zak Smalley had a great chance to level the match but hit a reverse stick shot wide as the Keeper laid helplessly.
In the 2nd half Tamworth were under the kosh and some superb defending from Simon Bowyer, Robert Busby and several fine save from Oxley they were hanging on for dear life. The away side struggled to get a string of passes together and get out of their own half. Chance after chance came and were missed by Telford and would they regret missing these chances. In the dying embers of the match, a fine Bowyer hit, found Cam Hunter on the left wing who played a great pass cross field, Jez Holloway managed to nick in front of the defender and as he went to strike the ball span away, Holloway somehow managed to re adjust himself and from the narrowest of angles hit a wonder strike over the keeper who had closed him down and the ball flew into the net. This was Tamworth’s first touch of the ball in the Telford D all half and was in fact the last touch of the ball.
Tamworth left with a smash and grab draw at 2-2 as the home side were furious with not picking up all 3 points. A classic game of hanging in and when you are only a goal behind anything can happen! |
