Match Report | Tamworth 2nds turned out their best performance of the season at home to top of the league Market Drayton, A superb match, with great desire, determination and discipline saw the home side strike early in the first half, as a well worked short corner routine resulted in a save from the Keeper and Dave Belson followed up well to push the ball in to the net after good advantage play from the Umpire Dan Ravenscroft.
Tamworth continued their strong start with some good hockey and resulted in another short corner routine which saw a superb Jez Holloway, Simon Bowyer one two, and Simon Bowyer found a composed strike in to the back of the net making it 2-0 to the home side. Tamworth held strong and brilliant play from Cam Hancox, saw him find Belson who went round the oncoming Keeper but was fouled and a penalty flick was given, Holloway however flicked wide of the post and kept the game at 2-0.
The second half began and the away side pressed and controlled the ball, several crucial saves from Ethan Oxley in goal kept the game at 2-0, as the game moved on Tamworth produced brilliant game management and after a period of play inside the away sides 25 yard line Hancox flicked in a ball from a free hit which appeared to be for Holloway, who feigned it and the ball flew in to Belson who battled for the ball, moved it to the side of the D and struck a thunderbolt which the Keeper got his stick to it but the pace just took the ball and stick into the net making it 3-0.
This goal flattened the away side and Tamworth had a number of other chanced to score more, but Market Drayton Keeper made numerous saves to keep the score at 3-0. A fine performance from Tamworth who now sit joint top with both Market Drayton and Newport. |
