Match Report

Tamworth 2nds bounced back to winning ways in an evenly contested match Vs Stafford.

In blustery conditions the game started with Tamworth having the majority of the ball and playing some good hockey creating good opportunities which saw Dave Belson & Jez Holloway have scoring opportunities to failing to convert.  That pressure eventually paid off mid-way through the 1st half when a neat bit of play on the right side saw the ball deflected in to Dave Belson who flicked a 1st time shot, the oncoming keeper got a good piece of it, but the ball pace carried the ball high in to the net to give Tamworth a well-deserved lead.

Stafford grew in to the game playing some neat hockey too and somewhat against the run of play had a short corner which hit a Tamworth foot on the line, ,a penalty flick awarded and Ethan Oxley was unable to prevent the equaliser, it was 1-1 at the break.

The momentum of the match slightly swung and Stafford then began to get on top of the game and came close with some short corner efforts, eventually they did take the lead through some sloppy defensive play and the centre forward was gifted the ball and slotted home under the outstretched Oxley to take the game to 2-1.

Tamworth dug in deep and bounced back through grit and determination, which saw a brilliantly worked Short Corner routine where Holloway slipped the ball back to the pusher Josh Andrews, who used the ball pace to prod in a wonderfully worked routine – the game was back in the balance at 2-2.  Tamworth looking more likely with the goal threat they possessed saw them edge out Stafford late in the second half when a Stafford foot looked destined of another short corner, unnoticed by the home umpire the ball was deflected on by Holloway and Belson pounced and hit a 1st time strike which left the keeper with no chance as it boomed into the corner to give Tamworth the victory.  Belson scoring taking his goals up to 15 for the season and again the provide Holloway.
