Match Report | Tamworth 2nds continued their perfect start to the season with a convincing win away at Leek, Travelling with just 11 players, Tamworth produced a very cultured performance and made it 5 wins from 5. The game started slowly with Leek holding the majority of possession without any penetration, and Tamworth had a number of counter attacks, resulting in the opening goal from a short corner. Simon Bowyer’s strike bounced off the keeper and Dave Belson pounced, and produced a top corner flick over the keeper to start the scoring. A few minutes later Belson has his second with excellent work for Man of the Match Olly Bowyer who had a fine run with great stick work to draw out defenders and play a reverse stick pass in to Belson who controlled and slotted the ball under the oncoming keeper to make it 2-0. The move of the match made it 3-0, Josh Andrews played a lovely line ball with pace up the right wing and Holloway provided the pass of the match with a neat deflected nudge using the ball pace this flew up to Belson who timed his touch to perfection as he dinked the ball over the oncoming defenders stick and went 1 on 1 with the keeper, as the keeper came out Belson completed his hattrick with a clever pushed shot passed the keeper to nestle into the bottom corner – Tamworth led 3-0 at half time.
The second half saw Tamworth come under a bit of pressure from Leek, but Tamworth had some superb game management and played really well as a team. More chances came as the match got stretched with Leek pushing further forward and that man Bowyer again with some fine stick work found Jez Holloway who struck from the edge of the D and the keeper had no chance as it found the back of the net making it 4-0 and a really comfortable win for the away side and sees them continue to top the table. |
