Tamworth 2nd’s continued their season at home with a 10/10 performance vs matchday 1 winners Finchfield.

Tamworth started the game brightly and held a dominating presence throughout the match, they played some brilliant hockey and took an early lead when Dave Belson linked up with Olly Bowyer to see him reverse stick the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. Belson turned goal scorer to make it 2-0 with a neat reverse flick over the oncoming keeper. Tamworth were camped inside Finchfields half and 25, and after a series of Short Corner routines, Jez Holloway fired home Tamworth’s 3rd. While Finchfield did strike back through some sloppy defensive play to make things 3-1, the gap was restored when Simon Bowyer struck a short corner and the keeper saved only to find Phil Blenkinsop mopping up to put the ball in the net, the home side leading 4-1 at half time.

Tamworth again held the ball well and passed through the lines using the offensive men well, this led to a dominating second half performance, Blenkinsop firing a wonderful through ball in to Belson who one touch and flick into the corner of the net making it 5-1. Finchfield seemed to become a bit disorganised, which led to Belson getting his hattrick just a minute later as the same combination led to another goal being flicked in to the corner. Belson then turned provider after some good play by Holloway and a first time pass from Belson and a slap from Olly Bowyer saw they youngster get his 2nd of the match. It was just pure dominance from the home side and that combination of Bowyer, Holloway and Belson proved too deadly for the away side as this time Holloway fired in from the top of the D making the score 8-1.

While Finchfield did score a 2nd on a counter attack, it was too little too late and Tamworth had plenty more opportunities, with Cam Hunter looking dangerous on the left hand side throughout. It was though another 5 minute masterclass from Belson which saw him pick up his 4th and 5th of the match to see Tamworth strike 10, his 5th notably the best as the ball was played in by Holloway, and from the top right side of the D, a swivel and a strike which saw the ball rocket into the side netting rounding off a Man of the Match performance with 5 goals and 3 assists and taking Tamworth to top of the league on goal difference – what a thriller it was!
