Match Report | Tamworth Men’s section looks bright into the new season with new additions to the club, and the 2nds kicked off the season with a trip to Cannock,
Tamworth fielding a number of youth who have risen into the 2nds team started the match brightly with lots of nice build up play and created a number of chances in the early stages. The deadlock was broken inside 10 minutes when new signing Phil Blenkinsop picked up the ball juts outside the D, and fired a wonderful pacey pass to Dave Belson who struck first time to find the bottom corner and give Tamworth the lead.
Tamworth continued to looked dangerous, and after a series of short corner attempts, youngster Cam Hunter crossed the ball in to the D, and after a deflection and good umpiring to allow play to carry on, Jez Holloway crashed a fierce strike into the top of the net leaving the Goalkeeper with no chance. Tamworth went in at half time 2-0 to the good.
The 2nd half was a little bit slower and both sides struggled to gain any proper momentum, and while Tamworth had several chances to extend their lead, the Cannock Goalie made excellent saves to deny the away side from scoring more, the game was well managed out by Tamworth and resulted in a 2-0 victory. A really solid strong performance to start the season and another youngster Dylan Phillips took the Man of the Match award.
