Match Report | Tamworth Secure Dominant 4-1 Win Over Northampton to Stay Top
Tamworth Hockey Club reinforced their position at the top of the table with a commanding 4-1 victory over second-placed Northampton in a crucial away fixture.
The visitors started with intent, taking the lead early in the first half when Alex Cooper finished clinically after a well-timed assist from George Ayling. Tamworth continued to press and doubled their advantage before the break, with Ayling turning from provider to scorer after linking up brilliantly with Jake Mallinder.
Half time 2-0
Tamworth knew Northampton would come out fighting. The hosts found a way back into the match, converting a penalty corner to reduce the deficit. However, Tamworth responded in style, showing their attacking prowess once again. Tom Sperrink restored the two-goal cushion, finishing off a smart assist from Ayling.
As Northampton pushed forward in search of a late comeback, Tamworth capitalised on the space left behind. George Ayling capped off a superb individual performance with his second goal of the game, assisted by Dominic Parry, sealing an emphatic 4-1 victory.
Alongside Ayling’s standout performance, Joe Wood, Carter Bradshaw, Alex Cooper, and Dominic Parry put in strong displays to ensure Tamworth’s dominance across the pitch.
With another crucial win, Tamworth remain firmly in control at the top of the league, proving once again why they are the team to beat this season.
