Match Report

The ladies 2s went into Saturday's game knowing that only a win would do, to give them any chance of escaping relegation this season. They made a great start scoring after only six minutes when Di Milners cross found Claire Miles who saw her shot loop up into the top corner. Tamworth were playing some super hockey with Fiona Wylie and Elaine Foxley combining well in the center of midfield and Paula Cooper and Kirsty Brown working hard down the flanks, the town side created a number of chances to increase their lead but were unable to capitalise on these. With Woodlands looking dangerous on the break the towns defensive quartet needed to keep alert as they kept their forwards at bay and Tamworth went into the break 1-0 to the good.
The second session saw Woodlands enjoy more possession but it was the town side who struck first Fiona Wylie's inch perfect pass found Miles unmarked at the top of the 'D' who fired home for her second of the game. Woodlands hit back within five minutes of Tamworth's second goal with a fine individual effort and were enjoying their best spell of the game and only some brilliant goalkeeping from Nicky Youngman kept the towns lead intact.
With only ten minutes left on the clock Claire Miles completed her hat trick and Tamworth's third with a lovely flowing move down the right that found Miles in the 'D' who played a neat one-two with Foxley before firing into an empty goal to seal the win, Tamworth managed the final 10 minutes really well as they kept possession to deny any Woodlands threat and secure 3 valuable points. A superb team performance with the player of the match award going to Fiona Wylie.
