The ladies 2s suffered a disappointing home loss to Ilkeston on Saturday in the first of a double header weekend.The town side took a while to settle and had to withstand some early pressure, but Tamworth's defensive quartet of Cathy Thacker, Sam Bowyer, Clare Phillips and Jane Escombe defended well as a unit to keep Ilkeston at bay. As the town side started to enjoy more possession Fiona Wylie and Beth Wright were able to impose their game in midfield creating a number of chances but the town were unable find that all important goal and the teams went into the break all square.
It was Ilkeston who again made the better start to the second half scoring two early goals in quick succession, despite the efforts of GK Nicky Youngman who made a number of excellent saves. On sixty minutes Tamworth pulled a goal back, a flowing move saw the ball find Paula Cooper on the edge of the 'D' who fired home to set up an exciting final 10 minutes, but as Tamworth pressed for the equaliser they were caught on the break as Ilkeston scored a third and sealed the win.
