The ladies 2s suffered a home defeat to Matlock on Saturday losing 2-0. In an evenly balanced first half both sides enjoyed good spells of possession, with Paula Cooper and Claire Miles linking up well in midfield setting up a number of attacking opportunities. Defensively Tamworth were solid with Jane Escombe making a number of excellent tackles to breakdown Matlock attacks. But late on in the half Matlock forced a number of short corners and took the lead with a well worked routine to go into the break 1-0 up.
The second session followed a similar pattern to the first although Matlock created the better goal scoring chances, Cathy Thacker twice clearing off the line, with GK Nicky Youngman making a number of good saves. The town side continued to compete well with youngster Phoebe Phillips making her second team league debut performing really well. Tamworth's best opportunity of the half fell to Paula Cooper who saw her shot saved by the keeper before Matlock sealed their win with a fine individual effort.
A good performance from the town side, with lots of positives to take into the next game.
