Match Report

Tamworth travelled to Nottingham for the first round of the masters over 45s cup competition as they faced West Bridgeford on Sunday coming away with a 1-0 win.

The town side started on the front foot as they dominated possession passing the ball around in style, with Rachel Rowe and Jo Goode attacking down both flanks. Claire MIles and Di Milner should both have scored from good opportunities before Fiona Wylie, Elaine Foxley and Rowe also went close.  Defensively the town were solid as they thwarted  the West Bridgeford forwards with some good tackles and limited them to the odd attack. Tamworths pressure was finally rewarded when Di MIlner scrambled the ball home from Goode's cross just before half time.

The second session saw Tamworth continue to dominate, Fiona Wylie was twice denied by goal line clearances from well worked short corner routines, with Foxley and Jacqui Casey also forcing the gk into good saves. Although West Bridgeford rarely threatened the town goal they did created a good chance near the end of the game but gk Nicky Youngman was alert to any danger making a super double save before the ball was cleared to keep the towns lead intact. A dominant performance that deserved more goals see's the town go into the next round full of confidence.
