Match Report

Tamworth took all three points with a superb performance against Phoenix Blues on saturday winning 4-2.  The town side almost made a dream start as they won possession and a fast paced attack saw the ball find Gemma Bradshaw at the top of the 'D' who hit a brilliant first time strike only to be denied by an equally brilliant save by the opposition GK to deflect the ball just wide of the post.  Following a periond of evenly balanced play Tamworth won a couple of short corners in quick succession, with Sarah Arnold converting both to give the town side a 2-0 lead.  Jo Goode had another impressive game on the right, and with the town moving the ball at pace they created a number of goalscoring opportunities and with a little more composure Tamworth should have gone into the break with a bigger lead.

Tamworth continued to press forward in the second session and another brilliantly worked short corner saw Stevie Williams deflect Jo Goode's shot into the top corner. Tamworth's fourth goal was a well worked team goal, Paula Cooper, Claire Miles and Tilly Bryan combining well to set up Anne Marshall to finish neatly with a first time strike.

At 4-0 up the town side had a period of complacency as they gave the ball away cheaply allowing Phoenix Blues back into the game, Deb Oxley pulled off a couple of great saves but was finally beaten by two quick goals. Tamworth re-grouped and saw out the remainder of the game to record their first win of the season.
