Match Report

Tamworth travelled to Telford in their penultimate game of the season, Telford who have caused some big upsets in recent weeks would pose a tough challenge.

Tamworth started the game really well looking dangerous on the ball, possession and some good play with Jez Holloway, Dave Belson and Josh Volante linking up nicely.  The break through was made after a great short corner routine, seeing Jez Holloway striking a direct hit from a short in off the keeper to make it 1-0.  More Tamworth pressure led to a 2nd short corner routine resulting in the second, as Holloway and Simon Bowyer played a one two, Bowyer’s strike saved by the keeper and after a scuffle in the D, Cam Hancox flicked in a beautiful trike to nestle in the side netting, it was 2-0.

Telford who looked dangerous on the right side, managed to claw one back just before half time after good play on their right side and the ball fired across leading to a nice easy tap in from their striker.

In the second half Tamworth with just 11 men, had a few knocks and as the rain poured down, Telford began to dominate, another ball fired in from the right, led to a scramble in the D and again Telford managing to tuck it way to make it 2-2.  Within just a few minutes as there heads were up, they struck again, a shot was hit and going well wide, but found a Tamworth foot and deflected in, the momentum had swung.

Tamworth rallied hard and looked to bounce back, as the umpire signalled for 2 minutes to go Tamworth had a short corner, this was cleared out easily from Telford and a sideline ball, with only a matter of seconds left, the ball was played back to Simon Bowyer well in his own half, a gap appears into the D and he struck what can only be described as a rocket ball and assist of the season, it flew through the half right in to the D, Dave Belson managed to adjust himself and lie his stick down and deflect the rocket through his legs and it flew it to the net and clattered the backboard, netting his 20th goal of the season.  Unreal scenes as that was the last touch of the ball and the final whistle blew, overall a fair result in a well contested game.
