Tamworth Men’s 2nd team started their season after promotion into Division 8 led by new captain Cameron Hancox vs North Staffs 3rds.

North Staffs relegated from Division 7 provided a stern reality test for the promoted Mens 2nds.

Tamworth struggled with availability this weekend, and included several youth prospects in the side, notably Josh Andrews and Dylan Phillips who made their senior debuts.  Tamworth also had to rely on a makeshift Goalkeeper.

Within the 1st 10 minutes Tamworth conceded 2 quick fire goals, neat play by the opposition reaching the by-line and a pass across leading to simple goals.  At this point there was a bit of fear in a heavy scoreline.  North Staffs lost a bit of discipline and were reduced to 10 men, in this period Tamworth had some good opportunities with efforts from Ollie Bowyer and Jez Holloway nearly reducing the deficit.  North Staffs still held the share of possession however a string of smart saves from Dave Belson in goal ensured that the 1st half ended 2-0 to North Staffs.

Tamworth grew stronger and held their own in the 2nd half, and again had a few chances through Holloway and Bowyer to make it interesting, but North Staffs who were plagued by debuting Man of the Match GK Belson who amassed 11 saves in the match eventually managed to get the 3rd with a scruffy bundled in effort to take the 3 points and kick off their campaign.

While a defeat to start the campaign, great credit to the debutants and team for effort involved as Tamworth host Leek 5ths at home next week.
