Match Report

Tamworth had a tough challenge this week against top of the table Warwick. They were eager to work on the win last week and carry that forward into the next game.

The game had some fast pace from the offset and the sides appeared evenly matched. Tamworth had some good defensive play from Ian Wagstaff and Dylan Waldron who were able to keep Warwick from taking the lead despite some aggressive counter attacking play.

Tamworth pressed forward well with some solid play through the middle with Jake Mallinder and Elliott Birchall assisting striker Ben Bowyer into multiple chances which drew some good saves form the Warwick goalkeeper.

Tamworth were unable to keep the scores level as a breakaway caused Warwick to score and take the lead at 1-0. Despite the best efforts from Tamworth, they quickly conceded another goal to make it 2-0 to Warwick heading into the break.

Half Time- 2-0

However, Tamworth came out the second half fighting as they were determined not to let Warwick increase their lead. The collective efforts of the midfielders and forwards pushed back hard against Warwick and some top possession play enabled Tamworth to hold onto the ball and create e a chance down the right wing. A strong run form Ian Wagstaff through the midfield and a precise ball into he D enabled Jake Mallinder to calmly net a goal and potentially bring Tamworth back into the game at 2-1.

Warwick countered aggressively and pushed back with attack after attack. The skill of Goalkeeper James Miles and defender Simon Bowyer were enough to keep the Warwick forwards at bay and despite a few more pressing balls into the D to Ben Bowyer and Zak Smalley, there was not enough to bring Tamworth back into the game.

An impressive performance against top of the league unfortunately ends with a loss at 2-1.
