Match Report

Tamworth hosted Loughborough Student 3's who are top of the league and with just the one sub we knew it was going to be hard. Tamworth played the first half in a defensive formation which invited Loughborough into our half and had us under pressure for much of the half.  Loughborough were young, fit and moved the ball well and within 10 minutes had their first goal.  Tamworth when they passed the ball quick and precisely played good hcokey but there were too many times where we held onto the ball too long and were then surrounded by the opposition.  Tamworth did equalise through a short corner strike from Gemma Rowe.  Unfortunately Loughborough were soon in the lead again with a well worked goal, just before half time Loughborough had scored their third.  In the second half Tamworth reverted back to their normal formation and played better hockey, there was more chances created and alot more space.  Tamworth had a couple more short corners and Tara Wylie struck one home to make the game in reach of a point. Loughborough had asked us to supply two umpires and unfortunately one of our umpires pulled her calf and didn't really want to carry on but with captains pulled to one side they both agreed to be fair.  Loughboroughs 5th goal came from the ball being lifted in the confines of the 'D' through two people going for the ball, the oppositions captain knocked it down from her chest and put it over the line.  Tamworth battled tirelessly and worked hard for each other and had other chances to score in the second half and feel the score line flatters the opposition and we could have had a point out of this game and are confident that the hard work at training will pay off as the season hopefully continues.
