Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI recorded their first win of the season with a resounding 12-0 win home to Newtown. Town had a strong side available and flew out of the blocks taking an early lead when Tom Hancox made room for himself in the D before crashing the ball reverse stick through the keepers legs. Ryan Brisco doubled the advantage when he pounced on a loose ball before rounding the keeper and finishing into the empty goal and it was Brisco who then ensured Town were well on top going into half time with his second and Tamworth's third with a close range deflected goal following a well worked penalty corner routine set up by Hancox and Tom Sperrink.

In the second half Newtown lost a player to a head injury and this led to Tamworth further dominating proceedings. Ben Thacker got in on the scoring when he brought down a misplaced aerial pass at the back and flicked past the keeper and this turned into a quick fire hat trick for Thacker as he added further goals with a low strike from a penalty corner and a short while later a simple finish after Town got in round the back of the Newtown defence. Not to be upstaged Brisco capped his hat trick before going to score five in total when first the keeper inadvertently kicked into his net from a pretty tame shot which Brisco followed up with two more from close range. Further goals came late in the game with Hancox scoring his second from a cut back from Sperrink who would also bag a brace scoring with a powerful shot high into the net after a lucky mishit squirmed into the corner earlier in the half.
