Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI lost their fourth game in a row as they were defeated 4-2 at Bromsgrove.  Tamworth needed to show some fight after their poor showing the previous weekend against Ludlow and although they lost this was a much stronger showing from Town.  Tamworth were aiming to be more solid defensively and although the home side dominated the early stages this was a much better effort from Tamworth.  Bromsgrove eventually found the opening goal from a converted penalty flick after Ian Wagstaff was struck on the foot on the line.  Tamworth worked their way back into the game and were rewarded when Ben Thacker showed good hold up play on the left before squaring to Ryan Brisco who in turn released Tom Sperrink into the channel and he struck into the top right corner to level the score.  Bromsgrove continued to apply pressure and James Miles was in top form to deny a series of chances from open play and a flurry of penalty corners but the hosts eventually found a way through to lead 2-1 at half time.

Tamworth were happy with the performance if not the scoreline but were frustrated to concede early in the second half as Bromsgrove doubled their lead. Town continued to plug away with Sperrink denied from close range following a setup by Tom Hancox and these two were involved again as Tamworth got a foothold in the game midway through the second period.  Sperrink was released down the right wing before he cut the ball back for Ross Dillon whose blocked shot fell kindly for Hancox to slam home.  Unfortunately for Town they could not complete the come back with Bromsgrove striking back almost immediately to restore their two goal cushion.

A disappointed result but a much improved performance all round with Miles in goal deserving more for his efforts and mature performances from youngsters Ben Thacker, Ross Dillon and Joe Wood.
