Tamworth Men's First XI finally got their first points on the board as they won a battling 3 points with a 5-4 win away to Khalsa Leamington 3rds on Saturday.

Town's squad was bolstered with the return of Simon Cooper and Andi McManus but they were under pressure in the early stages of the game as the hosts started the stronger and pressed Tamworth back.  Despite some excellent work at back eventually the pressure told and Tamworth found themselves 2-0 down after two quick goals in the space of a few minutes midway through the half.  This seemed to spark Tamworth into life and they got a foothold in the game when Tom Hancox struck a powerful shot low past the home keeper.  Khalsa Leamington struck back to restore their two goal lead but Tamworth continued to be positive and after Tom Sperrink and Ryan Brisco both shot wide when through on goal they were rewarded with a second goal when Hancox drove into the D and his pass across goal from the right found Sperrink who bundled in from close range to leave the score at 3-2 at half time.

After the interval Town were on the attack from the first whistle, with Cooper, McManus and Ryan Brisco gaining the upper hand in midfield and stifling Khalsa Leamington attacks.  Tamworth drew level early in the half when Ian Wagstaff reacted quickest from a penalty corner shot to flick the rebound high into the corner.  Town then took the lead with Sperrink set through on goal and able to cut back to Brisco for a simple finish after rounding the keeper.  The visitors looked to be seeing out a win only for Khalsa Leamington to hit back to level the tie at 4-4 but with time running out Brisco turned provider with a pinpoint pass to Sperrink on the left who slipped the ball under keeper to give Town a much needed win.

Tamworth host pace setting Old Halesonians 2nds next week and build on this weeks performance.
