Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI took the bragging rights as they beat the Second XI 5-1 to continue their promotion push whilst heaping further misery on their club mates who remain at the foot of the table.  Both sides were missing players and it showed as the Seconds sat back protecting their goal whilst the Firsts enjoyed long periods with the ball but struggled to create many clear cut chances.  Eventually the pressure would tell however and the Firsts took the lead when Ryan Brisco threaded a pass down the left channel to Tom Sperrink who turned and saw his cross-shot smartly turned in by Tom Hancox at the far post.  Despite this being an interclub game tensions were still high and James Goode saw yellow for a robust challenge before Simon Bowyer followed him to the sin bin with a green card for dissent to leave the the Seconds down to 9 for a short period.  This opening the game up further and the Firsts doubled their lead with  Brisco involved again as he laid the ball across goal with Sperrink getting the final touch in a goal line scramble.  Tamworth then added a third when from a penalty corner Hancox shot towards the left post and Ryan Brisco snuck in to get the final touch on the line.

In the second half the game continued in a similar pattern with the Firsts having most of the ball and the Seconds sitting deep to stay compact defensively.  The Firsts added a fourth goal midway through the half with Ian Wagstaff playing out from the back to Sperrink who in turn found the run of Hancox who slotted home under the diving Ethan Oxley in goal.  Hancox then wrapped up his hattrick when Brisco laid him in for a simple deflected finish.  The Seconds got the consolation their efforts deserved with Rob Busby converting on the rebound after Bowyer's penalty corner effort was blocked but the spoils stay with the First team for this season.

This Saturday the Firsts host Newton whilst the Seconds travel to Stone.
