Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI beat local rivals Nuneaton 5-2 at home on Saturday.  Tamworth were missing a number of regular first team players through suspension or injury but despite this started the game strongly.  After a period of concerted pressure Ryan Brisco opened the scoring when, from a penalty corner, he reacted quickest to a rebound and his powerful shot deflected off the keeper into the roof of the net.  Town doubled their lead soon after when the ball popped up for Parry to convert on the volley.  When Brisco added his second this time a delicate close range finish it looked like Tamworth could run riot but they were indebted to goalkeeper Tony Banks for maintaining the advantage as he made a spectacular double save to keep the visitors out.

After the break Tamworth had a chance to put the game to bed when Sperrink was felled in the D but looking for his hat trick Brisco saw his weak penalty flick effort saved.  This gave the away side a lift and they scored on the break before being awarded a flick of their own, fortunately for Tamworth this hit the post and Brisco was able to make amends grabbing his third when he deflected in a penalty corner strike from Simon Bowyer on his reverse stick.  Nuneaton would hit back again but Bowyer had the final say, emphatically smashing into the bottom corner from a penalty corner in the closing stages.
