Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI scored late on to draw 3-3 away to South Nottingham in a six goal thriller.  Tamworth went into this game full of confidence having won the reverse fixture earlier in the season but a slow start cost them as South Nottingham opening the scoring in the early stages.  This woke Tamworth up and as they started to press they began to force mistakes and it was Tom Hancox who continued his fine scoring form as he was quickest to pick up a rebound and lift into the goal over the stricken keeper and give Town an equaliser.  They then took the lead as moments later it was Jacob Mallinder who scrambled the ball in with another close range effort with Tamworth finishing the half strongly to lead 2-1 at half time.

After the break the hosts were the more dominant side and they scored twice more as Tamworth were punished for defensive lapses.  Town went back on the attack, Tom Sperrink saw his second attempt at a shot from a penalty corner tipped wide but when another was awarded in the dying moment sof  the game the ball came back off the post before a foul denied Hancox which led a penalty flick being awarded.  Ian Wagstaff stepped up and duly dispatched into the side netting to give Tamworth a hard earned point in a game that either side could have won.
