Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI scraped a 2-1 home win over Oundle in a bizarre game.

Prior to push back the visiting keeper realised he had not brought his kickers and leg guards and so Oundle took to the field with a kicking back rather than a fully fledged goalkeeper.  This saw Oundle then proceed to defend deep and in numbers gifting Tamworth long periods of possession but restricting their opportunities to get into the D to shoot.  When Tamworth did manage to breakthrough on a handful of occasions they found that they were unable to find the goal with saves, deflections and wayward shooting denying them.  To add insult to injury the away side then took the lead, hitting on the break and following a series of errors and an inability to clear the ball Oundle took the lead which they held at half time.

Tamworth came out after the break determined to find a way through but soon lost a player to injury before they eventually made the pressure tell.  Ryan Brisco wriggling his way into the D before a looping shot evaded everyone including the last defender on the line.  Tom Hancox then saved Tamworth from embarrassment as he struck a powerful reverse stick shot off the post to give Tamworth a much needed win.
