Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI were hammered 11-3 away to Ramgahria Derby in a strange game of two halves on Saturday.  Tamworth took a strong side but both sides were sloppy as the hosts had an early penalty corner opportunity which slipped narrowly wide before Tamworth took the lead when Tom Hancox rounded the keeper only to see his shot blocked illegally on the line and Ian Wagstaff stepped up to confidently dispatch the resulting penalty flick.  The hosts hit back with a goal of their own before Tamworth retook the lead with a well worked team move which resulted in Hancox drilling his shot low into the bottom left hand corner.  Again the hosts levelled the scores and again it was Tom Hancox who found space in the D to beat the keeper.  On the stroke of half time the home side levelled for the third time to leave the score at 3-3 at the break.

Tamworth knew the next goal would be important but didn't expect the avalanche of goals that followed as the team lost structure and were repeatedly second to the ball.  The visitors weren't helped by injuries to Ben Popple and Ben Acton and although they weathered a period down to 10 men when Wagstaff was sin binned for dissent in the first half they were carved open when Ryan Brisco spent an extended period on the sideline for the same offence.

Tamworth have the perfect opportunity to bounce back next weekend as they face local rivals Nuneaton in the league and Market Harborough in the cup.
