Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI enjoyed a weekend of mixed fortunes with disappointment on Saturday followed by success on Sunday.

On Saturday Tamworth were beaten 4-1 after travelling to Mansfield for their first league game of the new season.  Town were under strength and had to bolster the side with some younger players which left the side stretched and inexperienced.  This showed as Mansfield took an early lead when some quick interplay released their centre forward through on goal and he rounded James Miles before seeing his shot illegally blocked on the line with Miles helpless to stop the resulting penalty flick.  This sparked Tamworth into life and the rest of the half was a more even affair with chances at both ends, Tom Hancox going closest for Town when his shot from the top of the D was tipped over.

After the break Tamworth once again started poorly and they shipped a further three goals including a second penalty flick.  Again Tamworth finally found some fight late in the game and got a deserved consolation goal when Chris Lomas drew the keeper before lobbing his shot over the stricken stopper and evading the two defenders on the line.
