Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI ended their 7 game losing streak on Saturday with a hard earned point in a 2-2 draw away at Melton.  Despite the poor run of results Town had shown greater fighting spirit in recent weeks and required all their battling qualities in a game that was low on quality but high in chances.  The visitors struck the first blow when a cross into the D was only half cleared and as the keeper came out Ryan Brisco lobbed the ball into the goal evading the efforts of the defender on the line to clear.  Tamworth had chances to extend their lead from penalty corners first with Ian Wagstaff forcing a flying stick save from the Melton keeper before Tom Sperrink fired wide from a second opportunity.  The rest of the half was then dominated by Melton with James Miles producing a man of the match performance in goal to keep the hosts out.  Eventually they found a way when a cross from the right was converted at the far post to leave the game tied at the break.

The second half was a much less open affair with Melton having greater possession and territory but Tamworth restricting the chances from open play.  The hosts did eventually find a way through when a bouncing ball was converted from close range but in the closing stages Tamworth snatched an equaliser on the break.  A flowing move saw Andy Parker win the ball before playing into Brisco, he released Tom Hancox who exchanged a one-two with Sperrink and Hancox lifted his shot over the on rushing keeper.

Tamworth play top the league Nottingham Players at home in the final game of the season next Saturday.
