Match Report

On Sunday Town travelled to Nottingham where they were beaten 7-1.  Tamworth took a severely depleted side that featured a handful of Town’s youngsters to bolster the squad.  Tom Hancox ploughed a lone furrow up front as Town were pinned back and struggled to keep the ball.  Nottingham took a four goal lead before half time before adding three further goals after the break despite the best efforts of Louis March in defence who put in a tireless display to try and keep out the home side.  Tamworth’s consolation goal came late in the game when Tom Sperrink drove through the middle of the pitch and played the ball into Hancox who flicked the ball over his marker’s stick before hammering the ball into the backboard.  The weekends results have confirmed Tamworth’s place in the bottom two and with it relegation but they can take some pleasure from the performance of some of the younger players who acquitted themselves well and most notably Elliott Birchall on his first team debut, Dylan Waldren in midfield and Lewis McCall who was awarded Tamworth’s man of the match for his work on the wing,
