Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI fell to a fifth consecutive defeat as they were beaten 6-4 at home to Melton on Saturday.  Town had started the game the stronger and took a deserved lead when Ian Wagstaff exchanged passes with Dave Langford at a penalty corner before his deflected shot flew into the goal.  Tamworth continued on the front foot and doubled their lead when Tom Hancox continued his fine scoring form smashing his shot into the roof of the net from a tight angle on the right.  This woke Melton up and with Tamworth shuffling the side briefly when Mitch Francuz went off for treatment they struck twice to level the scores and Tamworth were left ruing a missed opportunity to take a lead into half time.

After the break the game swung back and forth as Melton came out the stronger and took the lead for the first time only for Tamworth to level soon after with Tom Sperrink striking on the rebound from a penalty corner.  Melton regained the lead to go 4-3 in front only for Hancox to bag his brace with his twelfth league goal of the season.  Melton again took the lead and wrapped up the win with a further goal to leave Tamworth facing another battle to avoid relegation this season.
