Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI were beaten convincingly 4-1 away at North Notts on Saturday.  Tamworth took a strong side but a late dropout and an early injury to Ben Robins meant that the eleven on the pitch would need to play the full game with no opportunity for rotation or rest.  As expected from previous experience of playing North Notts it was the home side who dominated possession but in a quick paced game both sides had early opportunities.  It was the hosts with the first clear chance with James Miles in goal coming out quickly to thwart a one versus one situation and soon after they opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead.  Tamworth regrouped and looked to be taking a slender deficit into the break but two quick fire goals left Tamworth staring at a 3-0 scoreline at half time.

After the break Tamworth should resilience in defence and although North Notts scored again midway through the half there were excellent displays from Jonathan Haywood and man of the match James Griffin at the back.  Tamworth could and should have scored from a number of chances with Cameron Hancox missing the most presentable and did pull one back late in the game when Griffin played the ball into Tom Hancox who lifted his shot over the keeper which brother Cameron touched just after it had crossed the line but this was merely a consolation in Tamworth’s heaviest defeat so far this season.

Tamworth face a double header this weekend with Nottingham Trent University in the league on Saturday and Ashby in the National Vase on Sunday.
