Tamworth Men's Firsts Vs Leicester Westleigh

Tamworth Men's First XI staged a spirited fightback to salvage a point from a game they looked to have lost on Saturday as they drew 4-4 away at Leicester Westleigh.  Tamworth came into the game in confident mood but looked off the pace and fell behind midway through the half.  Fortunately Tamworth were able to equalise late in the half with James Griffin breaking out of defence down the left wing and playing the ball into Tom Sperrink whose shot was saved only for Tom Hancox to jump on the rebound and strike high into the roof of the net.

After the break it got worse for Tamworth with Westleigh scoring 3 times including a controversial fourth from a penalty corner which appeared to strike a Leicester player in the body during the build up.  Tamworth looked dead and buried at this stage but were given a lifeline when Sperrink was brought down in the D and captain Ian Wagstaff stepped up to despatch the resulting penalty flick into the top left corner.  This seemed to jolt the visiting team into life and when Tom Hancox reduced the deficit to one the comeback was on.  Further chances came and went including a goalmouth scramble but Hancox was on hand for his second hat trick in consecutive games to score the equaliser late on and send Tamworth home the happier of the two teams.
